Rape accusations against celebs are a difficult thing to gauge the validity of.  No one wants to call the woman a liar, but that’s the first thing that popped into my head when Anthony Anderson was accused of rape, and I was right. Ditto Kobe Bryant and Ben Roeth(sp?)lisberger.  Now David Copperfield, the dorky, short, philanthropic, goofy Jew who made the Statue of Liberty disappear (by moving the camera) has been accused of that heinous, difficult-to-prove crime.

In 2007, a 22-year-old Seattle woman accepted David’s offer to visit him on his $50 million private island retreat. She arrived, she claims, expecting to discuess modeling opportunities but was instead, she claims, treated to dinner and a movie and sexual assualt and death threats. Her most chilling accusation is that the following morning, David held her head under water, threatening “This is an example of what you will get if you tell anyone” before assaulting her twice more.

The US Attorney’s Office has not filed criminal charges, but a grand jury has been convened.

“This lawsuit is extortion for money, plain and simple,” Copperfield’s lawyers said in a statement.

Let’s hope so.
