Despite all the hype surrounding Whitney Houston‘s comeback, we ain’t buying it.
Before she hits Oprah for her exclusive interview, Whitney did a number of press interviews about the new album. If you watch the video below, you’ll see a disinterested Whitney Houston who looks down at the floor a lot and stammers. It’s not the Phoenix-Rising-From-The-Ashes Whitney, her handlers have been trying to tell the world about. She doesn’t seem all there.
We’re not saying she’s back on drugs, but she seems distant. Perhaps medicated. And her performance on Good Morning America (“I’m Every Woman”) yesterday didn’t exactly help. Her voice is, to put it nicely, hoarse. We wish her all the best, but this folks, isn’t the Great Whitney Comeback story we were all hoping for.

Sure, Whitney’s voice is struggling but I think it’s quite unkind and irresponsible of you to ask “what is she on?” She just seems to be thoughtful and perhaps a little nervous in the interview you posted. Sure, she’s a major celebrity but I’m sure her sobriety is a very serious and tenuous endeavor for Whitney, so why question it without cause? Yes, I know it looks scandalous in print but there’s no reason to be disrespectful to a woman who has clearly come a long way from a dark place. Like millions of others, I’m rooting for Whitney and hope her personal and professional lives can once again be fulfilling for her.
