And the card attached would say? Golden Girl Estelle Getty‘s Emmy For Sale!
Yep, that’s right. For an opening bid of $15,000, you too can take home Sophia’s 1988 win for Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. Sadly, with just 10 hours left, and still no bidders, it seems the sale of the funny lady’s golden parts is no joke to fans.
But the Getty estate ain’t sellin’ this nugget. It’s a fan. Or a thief. Below the sale is a disclaimer from “seller” StevenSKF:
“This item was legally acquired through the Estelle Getty estate auction in Los Angeles. I have full legal title to this item, including a paid receipt, and I am therefore permitted to legally sell it.”
StevenSKF obviously has no idea the sale is no laughing matter to The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, who have already taken steps to retrieve the award.
According to Variety, if winners don’t want their statues anymore, it becomes the property of the TV Academy and must be returned.
