Even though The Twilight Saga: New Moon ripped off the highest grossing opening night ever with $72 million in Friday showings alone, they didn’t take the all time opening weekend record from The Dark Knight.
New Moon finished off the weekend with $140.7 million in total ticket sales, in third behind Spider Man 3 with $151.1 million and The Dark Knight which brought in $158.4 million in their respective opening weekends.
Though this has to be a sign of good news for Twi-hards after such positive reviews for the film, as more and more people jump on the bandwagon between now and June when Eclipse is released, you’ve got to expect that they shall surpass TDK in ticket sales eventually.
If not by the third movie, then the fourth for sure.
