Freecreditreport.com: Not

Folks, don’t fall for those freecreditreport.com ads that make it seem like getting a credit report is a free, super-fun, musical way to kick it with your homies. Don’t get me wrong, getting a credit report is a blast, and you’ll want to sing all about it, but it’s not free. Lame.

The Huffington Post is reporting that there’s a class action lawsuit brewing among dissatisfied patrons of the website and its owner, Experian. Apparently, after you sign up for the service and give ’em your credit info, they start charging you monthly on the sly. I just noticed something: anything that purports to be free but requests your credit card info is not free. It makes perfect sense if you stop to think about it for .002 seconds. By the way, the gubment mandates that you’re actually able to receive a legitimately free annual credit report. You can do so at www.annualcreditreport.com. But you won’t be able to join the class action lawsuit against Experia and bank upwards of like fifty bucks, so choose carefully.
