Hey, Brazil: Lower Your Murder Rate and Stop Worrying About Paris Hilton’s Beer Ads
Paris Hilton‘s new Brazilian ad for Devassa beer features the socialite taking a beer can out of the refrigerator and rubbing it on her dress instead of drinking from it. Well, that sounds about right. Every commercial the girl’s done involves rubbing on or simulating sex with the advertised product. But the totally tame ad, which makes her Carl’s Jr. car wash commercial look like her sex tape, has aroused the ire of Brazil’s Secretariat for Women’s Affairs. It turns out that Brazil has regulations prohibiting beer commercials from treating women as “overtly sensual objects.” This from the country that brought us a children’s television show called Teleboobies! (To be fair, that may have just been a Simpsons joke.) Hey, Brazil, how about a law prohibiting killing someone so you can take over their drug dealing territory? Oh, you already have one? Try enforcing it. I don’t want our brave Olympians catching strays because the favelas are warring. Or celebrating. Or bored.
