Lee DeWyze Struggling With First Week Sales

Could this be a sign of what’s to come from Lee DeWyze?

It’s been officially one week since he was crowned American Idol winner, and his first single, a cover of U2’s Beautiful Day has been available for download since then.

Hows it doing? Well he’s sold 95,000 copies.   That’s good enough to come in at #10 on the sales charts for the week, but it’s lack of air play is what may hurt Lee.

Yes, what station want’s to play a cover rather than an original, but we personally just think the people don’t have the interest.

Last year’s winner, Kris Allen, sold 136,000 during his first week, and David Cook befor him sold 236,000.  Both put out original songs.

Idol’s ratings have been on the decline for the past two years, parallel with the sales, so could the show be on it’s way out?

We think so!    Without Simon next season, they are going to need another Adam Lambert type to revive the show!
