Demi Lovato Talks About Her Struggles in New ‘Seventeen’ Gig

Demi Lovato has teamed up with Seventeen Magazine as a contributing editor, where she is talking about her emotional breakdown that landed her in a treatment facility.

In her first article, she tells the mag:

“I basically had a nervous breakdown. I was really bad off. My parents and my manager pulled me aside and said, ‘You need to get some help.’ It was an intervention. I wanted freedom from the inner demons. I wanted to start my life over,” adding, “One of the reasons I was so unhappy for years was because I never embraced my emotions and I was trying to stay in control,” she says. “In treatment, all of the negative things I did were stripped away and I had to start processing my feelings.”

Lovato has been out of rehab for a couple of months, and has also teamed up with The Jed Foundation for a campaign called “Love is louder than the pressure to be perfect,” an initiative to help those struggling with the same issues that she faced.

In her editorial duties for Seventeen, she will post articles twice a month on the Seventeen website.
