Lady Gaga On Plagirism Claims: “That’s Retarded”
Lady Gaga has been a very outspoken advocate for the LGBT community since becoming a star, but could one of her recent quotables have her in hot water with another group?
During a recent interview Gaga was asked about the first single off her upcoming album, ‘Born This Way,’ being a rip off of a classic Madonna track, ‘Express Yourself.’
Gaga kept the response plain and simple: “I’m a songwriter. I’ve written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I’m getting one over on everybody? That’s retarded.”
She adds, “What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about… If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It’s the same one that’s been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I’m the first f***ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means that I’m f***ing smart. Sorry.”
So could she have chose a better word than the “r” word? Probably. Should she face a Kobe-esque $100,000 fine and be forced to go on an apology spree? That’s up to you.
Many celebs in the past have been criticized for using the word “retarded,” including Jennifer Aniston on ‘Regis and Kelly’ as well as Lindsay Lohan, and Howard Stern.
Leaders of groups like The Arc, and the Special Olympics will definitely have something to say once they catch wind of Gaga’s usage, as it is a word they are trying to dispel from society, much like racial and anti gay slurs.
