Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump along with 24 other films have been added to the National Film Regestry to be preserved in the national vault.
Gump, the Oscar-winning picture from 1994, along with the Disney classic ‘Bambi,’ and Anthony Hopkins’ ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ will be added to the country’s National Film Registry for 2011.
These movies are among 25 chosen by the Library of Congress. The list also includes other famous titles like Charlie Chaplin’s first full-length feature The Kid, the 1953 version of War of the Worlds, Porgy and Bess, and Sally Field’s Oscar-winning drama Norma Rae.
James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress said in a statement, “These films are selected because of their enduring significance to American culture. Our film heritage must be protected because these cinematic treasures document our history and culture and reflect our hopes and dreams.”
