The controversial Lady Gaga concert scheduled for Jakarta this week has been canceled.
Local police recommended she be denied a performance permit. City officials were pressured by conservative campaigners, who are opposed to her controversial onstage antics, and threatening violence should the show go on as planned.
Gaga originally offered to tone down her act and even perform solo to ensure the show would happen, but on Sunday she was forced to cancel the show fearing for her safety, after protesters threatened to intercept her upon arrival in Indonesia,.
Gaga reached out to fans upon canceling the show, insisting she was “devastated” and will “try to put together something special” for her followers.
The singer writes to a post on her Facebook page, “We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I’m so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me. I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown. Gaga sends love to Jakarta and all its people.”
