Accompanied by her wife, Portia Di Rossi, DeGeneres admitted on the red carpet at the event that she was thrilled with the prize, insisting, “I’m flattered. It’s fantastic. Of course I think, ‘What took so long?’ You don’t do it for awards, you do it to make people happy.”
Other funny people who have received the award in the past include Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Lorne Michaels, and Whoopi Goldberg.
