Shutter Island Dominates Box Office

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Shutter Island dethroned the star studded film, Valentines Day, this past weekend to finish off with an opening weekend of $40.2 million dollars.
This is the biggest opening yet for DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese, who have worked together four times in the past including 2006 Oscar winner, The Departed.
Valentines Day held on to second place with $16.7 million dollars, bringing their 10 day total to $87 million.

Either way, the public spent their money on seeing 2012 this weekend!
The new film depicting the end of the world brought in $23 million dollars on Friday sales alone and about $61 million for the entire weekend.

Where The Wild Things Are Wins At the Box Office

The Spike Jonze-directed children’s book classic Where the Wild Things Are won big at the box office, bringing in an estimated $32.5 million on its opening weekend.
Forty-seven percent of the audience was estimated to be adult viewers, showing that adult nostalgia is fueling a lot of ticket sales.
Paranormal Activity wasn’t far behind it though, with $20.2 million this weekend, and its budget was far below that of Where The Wild Things Are.

I want to see it, but I can’t see movies the weekend they open because I can’t sit in a crowded theater surrounded by cretins eating popcorn with their open mouths. And I can never see movies at the Grove because that’s the worst place in Los Angeles to see a film if you don’t want want to listen to high school juniors eat nachos and text for 90 minutes....

The controversial movie with swinging penises dropped 73% in ticket sales this weekend, a figure that was forecasted by industry experts after a spiraling opening weekend.

A Box Office Tie?
What are the odds of that happening! Transformers 2 and Ice Age 3 came to a near statistical tie at this weekends box office.
Both films grossed $42.5 million dollars.
The results will be official today and will tell who actually came out on top, but according to the traditional Sunday system, it’s too close to call.
Johnny Depp’s public enemies came in at number 3.
Transformers Delivers Big Box Office as Promised
Well, The Hangover was supposedly this summers surprise blockbuster, and in it’s fourth week at the box office it’s still holding strong with a total gross of $183 million. It even took the number 3 spot this weekend.
But as expected, Transformers 2 debuted this weekend to HUGE numbers over 5 days.
The total: $201.2 million!!!
The first Transformers film did $155 million over it’s 5 day opening weekend, and was then overshadowed by The Dark Knight, which did $205 in 5 days.
