It’s a scene from Sacha Baron Cohen’s upcoming film, and likely something that Paula Abdul will be embarrassed over for some time!
Last year, the usually ditzy Abdul received a call telling her she was the artist of the year in Germany, and asked if she’d do a sit down interview to accept the award.
When she arrived to the scene, she was greeted by the character of Bruno, there was no furniture, no award, and she claims she suspected something was a little off at that point. Things became even more strange when Bruno called for the gardeners to come in and kneel down for them to sit on, and he asked her to change her clothes.
Abdul tells the JohnJay and Rich show upon her decision to walk out of the interview;
“As I’m going to my car, they’re chasing me with cameras,” she said. “And I’m like, ‘Oh God, this is so awkward.’ And I’m trying to hold a smile on my face and the guy, Bruno, is running down the street in front of the car. It was hysterical, but it was so disturbing,” added Abdul. “I was so mad at my publicist at that point. I said, ‘I can’t believe you signed [the release].’ And my manager and attorney were trying to call the production office — and, of course, it doesn’t exist. So I was freaking out.”
About 9 months later Abdul recieved a phone call asking if she knew she had been played by Sacha Baron Cohen. She thought, no, she had never worked with him before. She remembers then one night she woke up from a deep sleep in it hit her what had happened!
Bruno hits theaters in a little over two weeks and surely this will just be one of the many unforgetable moments!
