From his Swiss chalet in the Alps, Roman Polanski would like to let you know that he’s doing OK. The disgraced 76 year old filmmaker is in prison waiting to find out whether he’ll be brought back to the U.S. for those messy 1977 charges of having sex with a 13 year-old girl.
Said Polanski (in between bouts of cross country skiing):
“I have been overwhelmed by the number of messages of support and sympathy I have received in Winterthur prison, and that I continue to receive here, in my chalet in Gstaad, where I am spending the holidays with my wife and my children.”
The holidays? Thank god he’s surviving this wretched incarceration! (And working on the final edit of his movie while in “jail.”)
Polanski goes on to thank his “supporters”:
“I would like every one of them to know how heartening it is, when one is locked up in a cell, to hear this murmur of human voices and of solidarity in the morning mail. In the darkest moments, each of their notes has been a source of comfort and hope.”
