Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood is firing back at Kim Kardashian today, after Kardashian posted on her blog how she can’t believe that television is glamorizing teen pregnancy that way.
Kim read a story about a high school in Memphis, Tennessee where 90 girls have become pregnant in the past year, leading to blog the rant on her page.
Portwood, speaking to E! News responded with the obvious, pulling the sex tape card.
“There’s actually a study that shows since the original 16 and Pregnant aired, the number of teen pregnancies have gone down. Last time I checked, Kim Kardashian had a sex tape floating around on the internet and I’m pretty sure she made a lot of money off of it. She made a sex tape when she was younger and she wants to bash the girls on Teen Mom?”
Portwood is estimated to make about $280,000 per year because of the show, a small % of Kardashian’s annual income which some argue is the result of said sex tape.
The teen Mom adds: “If you read the articles about the show, they do nothing but talk about how the show reveals how hard it is for all of us. It doesn’t glamorize anything! It shows the heartache we’ve all gone through. We may be ‘celebrities’ because because our face is out there, but it’s only because we’ve done some bad things. That’s not glamorous.”
We’re not saying the show glamorizes Teen pregnancy, but in the same way Jersey Shore has taught us all to drink a little harder, tan a little longer, and smoosh everything that comes our way, we can’t deny that uneducated teens may see that having a baby at the young age of sixteen could open the doors to fame and fortune for them.
