Michael Jackson’s 50 show residency at London’s O2 arena would have kicked off tonight if it weren’t for the singers untimely death just a few weeks ago.

The original start date had been pushed back by one week, but it was believed that This is It would have started for real on tonight, July 13 in London.

It was essentially the Michael Jackson farewell tour, but when the singer passed away on June 25, it became just another question of what might have been.

AEG is sure to cash in though, as they have started selling merchandise from the tour  on this website, so fans have a chance to snatch up some of the goodies they might have at the shows.

In other Michael Jackson news, one of many tribute shows has been scheduled for VH1.  Follow me after the jump to find out more about it.

On  August 29th in Las Vegas, cast members of the current stage shows on the Vegas Strip, including Jersey Boys actor Erich Bergen will celebrate the life of Michael Jackson.

None of the other performers have been announced yet but will be in the days leading up to the show.

Proceeds from the show will be donated to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, an charity that Michael himself had contributed to that helps improve music education in public schools.

The show will take place at the Pearl Theater inside the Palms casino.
