Hangover 2 Director Explains Dropping Mel GIbson

Director Todd Phillips is clearing up any rumor about Mel Gibson being or not being in The Hangover 2 , and their reasoning behind cutting him lose.

Though he wouldn’t name names, Phillips told Entertainment Tonight:

The Hangover 2 is a family … and as much as I loved the idea, a lot of people didn’t. I didn’t want anything to come in between that family.”

Concerns may have been raised when one of the films stars, Zach Galafinakis went on a comedy radio show and said there were some problems on the set, which most speculated had to do with Gibson’s casting as a Bankok tattoo artist.

Since that day, Gibson has been replaced by actor Liam Neeson for the role.

Phillips adds,  “He’s one of our finest actors and, quite honestly, one of our finest directors.”
