Nick Lachey Debuts New Song For NCAA Basketball Tournament

Nick Lachey’s music career seems to have taken a back seat to his relationship with Vanessa Manillo and a few acting gigs, but when sports calls, Lachey answers.

Lachey has recorded a new song to be played as the anthem of The Big East in the upcoming NCAA tournament.

‘Last One Standing’ is the name of the song, and it will begin to play on ESPN on Saturday night during the semi finals of the conference tournaments.

Lachey sat down with E!’s Marc Malkin to talk about the project.

Is this like the ultimate project for you—combining sports and music?
This is pretty much the dream scenario for me. Those are kind of my two passions, sports and music. So to be able to be able to combine them in one project is pretty cool.

How did this all come about?
I had the concept for this song in my head for a while. I’m good friends with the commissioner of the Big East [John Marinatto] and he mentioned to me they were looking for some kind of fight song, an anthem. So I went into the studio a couple weeks ago and wrote it.

Lachey also chatted with Malkin about the upcoming wedding to Vanessa Manillo, and hosting ‘The Sing Off’ singing competition on television.
