Last year at the MTV movie awards, it was Heidi and Spencer who hogged up all the camera time and were MTV’s “darling couple” of the night. Last night it was Paris Hilton and Benji Madden, making them arguably the hottest couple out there. It seemed like almost once per segment the cameras panned to Paris and Benji for a reaction shot. Benji, who usually has the same exact look on his face, and Paris, who usually has that same exact look whenever she’s with Benji, have now became more of a big deal than Nicole Richie and Benji’s brother, Joel Madden.
Maybe it’s the fact that MTV likes to keep the cameras on their own network stars, in which Paris has a new show premiering sometime this summer on what she called her “favorite network,” but that can’t be right, because aside from 2 minutes with Audrina, (The Hills new “it” girl) one shot of Brody Jenner, and a quick snap of Lauren, Whitney, and Stephanie on the red carpet, the Hills cast was noticeably absent from this years awards show.
Rihanna and Chris Brown weren’t far behind tho as the cameras payed a lot of attention to them admist rumors that her people have instructed her to stay away from him because he is destracting her from her work, and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, who proved to the world that you can find true love in your high school drama club, came in close at third. (Zac also picked up an award for best breakthrough performance for his role as Link Larkin in Hairspray.)
MIA from the awards show was Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, original reports were that Heidi and LC would be seated just 10 seats away, which is definitely close enough to hit with a piece of hard candy, but on a network that loves the drama of these two, no drama was delivered.
overall I give MTV an 8.5 out of 10. Had they let Paris and Benji present an award, well then they would have received the full amount.
