David Beckham’s Olympic Snub

The Olympics will kick off in David Beckham’s home country next month, but the soccer star won’t be involved in the capacity that he had hoped.

It was announced on Thursday morning that Beckham was not selected to play for Team Great Britain during the summer games.

Following the announcement, Beckham said in a statement; “Everyone knows how much playing for my country has always meant to me,” Beckham said, following the announcement. “So I would have been honored to be part of this unique Team GB squad.

“Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.”

Beckham made the team’s 35-man prelim squad cut last month, but was not on the list when the 18 man final roster was posted, after coach Stuart Pearce traveled to LA last week to scout Beckham playing for the LA Galaxy.
