Comedy Central to Revive American Comedy Awards

The American Comedy Awards ran from 1987 to 2001 airing mostly on ABC then Comedy Central gave it a go for one year before shelving the whole thing. But I’m sure parent company Viacom realized that award shows can rake in millions of viewers- the VMA’s got 9 million viewers (which is high for cable)- and wanted to cash in on that. Comedy Central will start up the awards show again starting next year.

There are several directions the award show can go. It could celebrate comedy in all forms, giving respect where it’s due to various modes and artists of the genre. Or it could be just a 2 hour tribute to Don Rickles. Or it could be a Viewer’s Choice thing where all the awards go to Dane Cook and I yell at the TV.
